Please help me with the following question:) What was the purpose of tube A?

Tube A is a control tube. Control tubes are used to determine what would happen if the experiment was left to itself. You can then compare the results of the control tube with the results from the other tubes to determine the effects that each of the different experiments have on the substance that is being tested.
