When to change the filter media and how?

I have a 30 gal tank, newly cycled, I have two running filters on it. When should I do my first cartridge change? I ume I should change only one first. How long should I wait to change out the second?. My tank has recently cycled and is now running smooth so I am a little wary and want to do this correctly. Thanks for your help!
