Why do Americans lack sophistication?

Their does seem to be some truth in what you say. My 2 sons visited europe this summer and they both came back saying, this is better that is better, etc. etc. But, i also beleieve that its not always a fair comparison, that its sometimes comparing apples and oranges. Like history, Europe has a couple thousand years of it, we only have a few hundred. Also, I think capitalism has taken its ugly toll on us, making us work more, more materialistic. The car companys fought off developing a great train system etc. But actions speak louder than words, their are many people living in America, even from the so-called better parts of europe and they are in no hurry to go back.
