How much are tattoos in California?

My husband and I are from Oklahoma and tattoos here are EXPENSIVE. I suppose this is due to a lack of shops and therefor the ones that are here can charge what they want. I wanted to get a tattoo for my daughter while on vacation in Dana Point? Any suggestions on where to go? The last tattoo I got, I do not like. I don;t think the guy knew what the hell he was doing and f-ed it up. It is just black and a tramp stamp that cost when it was all said and done about 250. It isn't big and isn't very detailed that is why I think I got ripped off.
